The match between SSAN (Science Students' Association) and SUG (Student Union Government) kicked off at around 3:40 pm, with SSAN quickly asserting dominance. In the opening 10 minutes, SSAN managed to get a shot on target, signaling their intent early in the game.
The breakthrough came in the 17th minute when Lawal Aleem of SSAN skillfully lobbed the ball over the onrushing SUG goalkeeper, Akande Victor, following a well-timed assist from Farooq Salaam. Just a minute later, SUG's Sapa Joshua was booked for a foul on Aleem, showing the intensity of the contest.
SSAN extended their lead almost immediately in the 19th minute with a stunning free-kick by Adewusi Michael. His strike from distance found the back of the net, leaving the SUG goalkeeper helpless. Despite SUG’s efforts to fight back, SSAN’s composed goalkeeper kept them at bay, and the first half ended with SSAN comfortably leading 2-0.
The second half began with the same intensity from SSAN, who maintained their control of the match. In the 42nd minute, Odey John of SUG committed a foul in the penalty box by raising his boot too high, hitting a SSAN player. The referee, Ariyibi Samuel, awarded a penalty to SSAN, which Lawal Aleem calmly converted, bringing the score to 3-0.
In the 44th minute, SSAN substitute Adebiyi Rotimi received a yellow card for a foul on the far side of the pitch. SSAN capitalized on a defensive mistake by SUG when a defender misplayed the ball back toward his own penalty area, allowing Farooq Salaam to seize the opportunity and round the goalkeeper to score SSAN's fourth goal.
The intensity of the match continued to rise, with Segun Ogungbe of SUG receiving a yellow card in the 53rd minute, followed by Najeem Samad in the 55th minute before being substituted. The match ended 4-0 in favor of SSAN, who advanced to the final in dominant fashion. SUG, on the other hand, will face Vocational in the third-place match scheduled for Monday, October 14th, 2024.
