The match between ASSAN and Vocational (VESA) kicked off at 4:50 pm, with ASSAN asserting their presence early by dominating the midfield battles in the first 10 minutes. Both teams showed tremendous physicality, strength, and determination, aware that the winner would secure the last spot in the finals. The intense nature of the game was reflected in two quick bookings: Freeman Ayokunle and Diyaolu Qudus of VESA were both shown yellow cards in the 15th minute for fouls on ASSAN players.
Chances were limited in the first half, with both sides managing only one shot on and one shot off target. However, ASSAN enjoyed more possession, reflecting their control of the game. The second half began similarly, with ASSAN continuing to apply pressure. Their efforts paid off early when they won a corner, which was cleverly taken by Adeleke Samuel. In a twist of fate, VESA’s goalkeeper Amusan Toheeb, in an attempt to punch the ball clear, accidentally directed it into his own net, giving ASSAN a 1-0 lead, much to the delight of their supporters.
VESA responded by making impactful substitutions, which shifted the momentum slightly in their favor. They pushed forward in search of an equalizer but struggled to break through the resolute ASSAN midfield and defense. Alabi Victor of VESA was booked in the 51st minute, as the match continued to be physically intense. ASSAN's Akinyemi Marvelous was also shown a yellow card in the 57th minute for time-wasting as they fought hard to maintain their slender lead.
Despite VESA’s growing influence, they could not find the back of the net, and the match ended 1-0 in favor of ASSAN. With this victory, ASSAN secured their spot in the final, setting up an exciting encounter against SSAN. Vocational (VESA), on the other hand, will compete in the third-place match against SUG on October 14th, 2024.
