3RD PLACE MATCH: DR RA SOYELE COMMUNITY 5 A-SIDE FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP: LASU CLINCHES THIRD PLACE WITH HARD-FOUGHT 2-1 VICTORY OVER STAFF TEAM

In a fiercely contested third-place match of the Dr. R. A. Soyele Community 5-a-Side Football Championship, LASU edged past the Staff Team 2-1, securing the bronze medal in a game filled with excitement, drama, and moments of brilliance. The match, which kicked off at 4:35 PM, showcased attacking football from both sides, keeping the spectators engaged until the final whistle.

Both teams started on equal footing, displaying attacking intent from the outset. LASU took the lead in the 7th minute when Adeitan Wisdom found the net with a well-placed finish. However, the Staff team responded swiftly, showing resilience and composure. Their efforts eventually paid off in the 13th minute, as Saliu Abdullahi found the back of the net through a brilliant shot to bring the game level.

The Intensity remained high, and Alabi Babatunde of LASU received a yellow card in the 16th minute for dissent. Despite both teams pushing for a lead, neither could break the deadlock before halftime, leaving the score at 1-1 going into the break.

The second half began with a more cautious approach from both sides, as they aimed to control possession and avoid mistakes. However, in an unfortunate turn of events, the Staff Team goalkeeper directed a corner into his own net, handing LASU a 2-1 lead.

Desperate to equalize for the second time, the Staff Team launched multiple attacks, creating a series of goal-scoring opportunities, but they failed to convert their chances. As tensions rose, disciplinary issues surfaced, with the Staff Team coach receiving a booking in the 40th minute, while Junaid Ramadan and Kukoyi Sunday of LASU were also cautioned before the final whistle.

With LASU held onto their lead, they emerged victorious, claiming third place with a 2-1 win. Their goalkeeper, Uko Amos, was named Man of the Match for his exceptional saves and commanding presence between the posts.

With the third-place match settled, all attention now shifts to the much-anticipated final on Friday, 14th February 2025, where CUDEP and NCE will battle for the championship title.
