The much-anticipated clash between the NCE team and the CUDEP team kicked off at 4:23 PM, with both sides displaying streams of attacking brilliance but failing to find an early breakthrough. As the game progressed, the NCE team showed greater tenacity and determination, which paid off in the 18th minute. Adeleke Samuel produced a moment of magic, dribbling past a CUDEP player twice before curling a beautiful shot past the helpless goalkeeper. The goal was set up by an impressive assist from NCE goalkeeper Abass Oriyomi, who picked a precise pass through three CUDEP players to set up the opportunity.
Despite CUDEP's efforts to respond, they could not find an equalizer before
the half-time whistle. The second half resumed with both teams adopting a
cautious approach, wary of leaving their defenses exposed. However, the NCE
team doubled their advantage in the 30th minute. Olatunji Samson of KHE
attempted a back pass, which was intercepted by Diyaolu Qudus. Qudus then
skillfully laid the ball off to Popoola Abel, who calmly slotted it into the
back of the net, much to the delight of the NCE supporters.
As the match neared its conclusion, CUDEP pushed to get back into the game.
Their persistence paid off when they were awarded a free kick due to the NCE
team's failure to maintain the required distance. Sangoyoyiwa Joshua seized
the moment, catching the NCE goalkeeper off guard and reducing the deficit.
CUDEP pressed hard in the dying moments, aiming to force a penalty shootout,
but their efforts fell short as the final whistle confirmed NCE's victory.
At the end of the match, Nojeem Samad was named the Man of the Match for his
outstanding contributions both defensively and in attack. Abass Oriyomi was
awarded the Best Goalkeeper honor, while Adeleke Samuel (NCE Team),
Sangoyoyiwa Joshua (CUDEP Team), and Falade Emmanuel (LASU Team) shared the
Highest Goal Scorer award, each recording two goals and one assist.
Additionally, Nojeem Samad was crowned the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the
tournament.
The post-match closing ceremony saw the Provost Dr. R. A. Soyele honored with
the Pillar of Sport award, recognizing his contributions to sports
development. Meanwhile, the sponsor, Mr. F. F. Ojo, received the Ambassador of
Sport award for his invaluable support.
The match showcased skill, passion, and resilience, leaving fans entertained
and setting a high standard for future competitions.
