The match between the English and Mathematics departments started with English dominating and creating numerous chances, resulting in four shots on target in the first half. Mathematics had to focus on defending and created few opportunities. Promise from the English team was booked just 2 minutes into the game, setting a tense tone for the match.
The second half took a dramatic turn when English goalkeeper Solomon committed a foul by kicking Mathews Victor, resulting in a penalty and a booking for Solomon in the 33rd minute. Mathematics Captain Odebode Abiodun calmly converted the penalty in the 34th minute, marking the first goal English had conceded in the tournament.
The game became more intense as Mathematics' Adebayo Reverend received a yellow card for a foul on an English player in the 39th minute, followed by Ayoade Ruphus' booking in the 51st minute. Mathews Victor of Mathematics was also booked for time-wasting just a minute later.
Despite English's continued efforts, including a near-miss by Joshua in the 45th minute after dribbling through the Mathematics defense, they could not find the back of the net. Mathematics held on to their lead and secured a 1-0 victory, advancing to their first final in 11 years in the CUSPORF tournament.
Mathematics Captain Odebode Abiodun was awarded the man of the match for his performance. English will face Physics again in the losers' final tomorrow, 22nd of July, 2024.
