In a keenly contested match, the Physics Department triumphed over the Chemistry Department with a convincing 3-0 victory. Despite Chemistry dominating possession, it was Physics who found the back of the net. The game’s first goal came in the 18th minute, courtesy of a stunning free-kick from the Physics captain, Akinwande Kunle. His well-curled effort left the Chemistry goalkeeper rooted to the spot, giving Physics an early lead.
The second half began with renewed vigor from the Physics team. Their
pressure paid off almost immediately when, in the 45th minute, a
defensive mishap led to an own goal by the Chemistry goalkeeper, who
inadvertently directed the ball into his own net.
Physics continued to press, and their dominance was further established in the 51st minute when Akin Akinleye unleashed a well-taken shot that beat the Chemistry goalkeeper, extending the lead to 3-0. While Chemistry had some decent chances throughout the match, their inability to convert these opportunities into goals proved costly. The Physics goalkeeper performed admirably, thwarting several Chemistry attempts, whereas the Chemistry goalkeeper had a challenging game. Akinwande Kunle's exceptional performance earned him the man of the match award, highlighting his pivotal role in Physics' victory.
Looking ahead, the Physics Department will aim to maintain their brilliant start when they face the English Language Department on July 17, 2024. Meanwhile, the Chemistry Department will seek to turn their fortunes around in their next match against the CRS Department on July 18, 2024.
