NCE TEAM CROWNED THE CHAMPIONS OF DR. R. A. SOYELE COMMUNITY 5 A-SIDE FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP


The much-anticipated clash between the NCE team and the CUDEP team kicked off at 4:23 PM, with both sides displaying streams of attacking brilliance but failing to find an early breakthrough. As the game progressed, the NCE team showed greater tenacity and determination, which paid off in the 18th minute. Adeleke Samuel produced a moment of magic, dribbling past a CUDEP player twice before curling a beautiful shot past the helpless goalkeeper. The goal was set up by an impressive assist from NCE goalkeeper Abass Oriyomi, who picked a precise pass through three CUDEP players to set up the opportunity.



Despite CUDEP's efforts to respond, they could not find an equalizer before the half-time whistle. The second half resumed with both teams adopting a cautious approach, wary of leaving their defenses exposed. However, the NCE team doubled their advantage in the 30th minute. Olatunji Samson of KHE attempted a back pass, which was intercepted by Diyaolu Qudus. Qudus then skillfully laid the ball off to Popoola Abel, who calmly slotted it into the back of the net, much to the delight of the NCE supporters.


As the match neared its conclusion, CUDEP pushed to get back into the game. Their persistence paid off when they were awarded a free kick due to the NCE team's failure to maintain the required distance. Sangoyoyiwa Joshua seized the moment, catching the NCE goalkeeper off guard and reducing the deficit. CUDEP pressed hard in the dying moments, aiming to force a penalty shootout, but their efforts fell short as the final whistle confirmed NCE's victory.

At the end of the match, Nojeem Samad was named the Man of the Match for his outstanding contributions both defensively and in attack. Abass Oriyomi was awarded the Best Goalkeeper honor, while Adeleke Samuel (NCE Team), Sangoyoyiwa Joshua (CUDEP Team), and Falade Emmanuel (LASU Team) shared the Highest Goal Scorer award, each recording two goals and one assist. Additionally, Nojeem Samad was crowned the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the tournament.

3RD PLACE MATCH: DR RA SOYELE COMMUNITY 5 A-SIDE FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP: LASU CLINCHES THIRD PLACE WITH HARD-FOUGHT 2-1 VICTORY OVER STAFF TEAM



In a fiercely contested third-place match of the Dr. R. A. Soyele Community 5-a-Side Football Championship, LASU edged past the Staff Team 2-1, securing the bronze medal in a game filled with excitement, drama, and moments of brilliance. The match, which kicked off at 4:35 PM, showcased attacking football from both sides, keeping the spectators engaged until the final whistle.

Both teams started on equal footing, displaying attacking intent from the outset. LASU took the lead in the 7th minute when Adeitan Wisdom found the net with a well-placed finish. However, the Staff team responded swiftly, showing resilience and composure. Their efforts eventually paid off in the 13th minute, as Saliu Abdullahi found the back of the net through a brilliant shot to bring the game level.

The Intensity remained high, and Alabi Babatunde of LASU received a yellow card in the 16th minute for dissent. Despite both teams pushing for a lead, neither could break the deadlock before halftime, leaving the score at 1-1 going into the break.

The second half began with a more cautious approach from both sides, as they aimed to control possession and avoid mistakes. However, in an unfortunate turn of events, the Staff Team goalkeeper directed a corner into his own net, handing LASU a 2-1 lead.

Desperate to equalize for the second time, the Staff Team launched multiple attacks, creating a series of goal-scoring opportunities, but they failed to convert their chances. As tensions rose, disciplinary issues surfaced, with the Staff Team coach receiving a booking in the 40th minute, while Junaid Ramadan and Kukoyi Sunday of LASU were also cautioned before the final whistle.

With LASU held onto their lead, they emerged victorious, claiming third place with a 2-1 win. Their goalkeeper, Uko Amos, was named Man of the Match for his exceptional saves and commanding presence between the posts.

With the third-place match settled, all attention now shifts to the much-anticipated final on Friday, 14th February 2025, where CUDEP and NCE will battle for the championship title.

MATCH 2: DR R.A. SOYELE COMMUNITY 5 A-SIDE FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP: NCE BOYS TRIUMPHS OVER STAFF MEN TO SECURE FINAL SPOT

The game, which kicked off at approximately 5:11 PM, saw moments of brilliance, resilience, and tactical discipline as the teams battled for a place in the final. The match began with high energy, with both teams looking to assert control. The opening stages were not without controversy, as Alonge Kayode found himself on the receiving end of a rash challenge. However, it was the NCE team that struck first, with Adebayo Boluwatife finding the back of the net in the 7th minute after a well-executed move.

Undeterred by the early setback, the Staff team pressed forward in search of an equalizer. Their persistence paid off when Toba was brought down on the penalty line after a beautiful solo run, winning a crucial spot-kick. The forward showed composure, stepping up and converting from six yards to bring his team level.The NCE team responded with a wave of attacks and created several scoring opportunities, but they were repeatedly denied by Ebuka Osuji, the Staff team’s goalkeeper, who made a series of crucial saves to ensure the score remained 1-1 at halftime.

The NCE team resumed the second half with renewed intensity, picking up where they left off. Their sustained pressure eventually paid off in the 30th minute when Lawal Aleem finished off a brilliant team move, involving all NCE outfield players, to restore his team’s lead. The Staff team fought valiantly to overturn the deficit, but despite their attacking efforts, they could not break through the NCE defense. Their frustration showed in their discipline, as they accumulated five fouls in the second half compared to four in the first. The NCE team, on the other hand, did not fair much better committing four fouls in both halves. For his outstanding contributions on both ends of the pitch, Najeem Samad was named Man of the Match, having played a key role in both attack and defense. Both teams finished the game with a yellow card each in what was a competitive yet disciplined contest.

With no further goals, the match ended 2-1 in favor of the NCE team, securing them a spot in the final against CUDEP on February 14, 2025. The Staff team, despite their spirited effort, will now shift focus to the third-place playoff against LASU on Wednesday, February 12, 2025.

From the opening whistle, CUDEP asserted their presence, pressing high and creating early scoring opportunities. Their efforts paid off in the 19th minute when Sangoyoyiwa Joshua found the net with a clinical finish, giving his team a 1-0 lead. LASU, undeterred by the setback, responded with attacking intent, but CUDEP’s defense held firm, ensuring they went into halftime with the advantage.  

The second half saw a determined LASU side push forward in search of an equalizer. Their persistence bore fruit in the 25th minute when Abdugafar Odede capitalized on a well-worked move to level the score at 1-1. With momentum shifting, LASU pressed for a winner, but CUDEP quickly regrouped.  In the 32nd minute, CUDEP regained the lead through Akindehinde Oluwanifemi, who finished off a brilliant assist from Sangoyoyiwa Joshua. That goal proved decisive as CUDEP held firm in the closing stages to secure the victory.  

Despite CUDEP having less possession (46% to LASU’s 54%), they made their chances count, registering six shots on target compared to LASU’s five. The match saw its fair share of intensity, with CUDEP committing five fouls while LASU registered seven with one yellow each.  

The standout performer of the day was Sangoyoyiwa Joshua, he played a crucial role in his team’s success. Scoring the opener, providing the assist for the winner, and completing 12 successful dribbles, he was instrumental in CUDEP’s attacking play and was deservedly named Man of the Match.  

With this victory, CUDEP advances to the highly anticipated finals on Friday 14th of February, 2025. LASU will shift their focus to the third-place playoff scheduled for Wednesday, February 12. The match was a spectacle of determination and quality football, and CUDEP will look to carry this momentum into the title decider.
